Hands down the fastest skateboard race in the northern hemisphere, the Mount Washington DH is a true test of mental and physical ability, and the newest addition to the BC race circuit. On August 21st and 22nd, Speed Freaks from all over the world will unite for two days of sanctioned riding on one of the most valued gems of Canada’s west coast.
Located about twenty minutes north-west of the Comox valley on beautiful Vancouver Island BC, The Mt Washington alpine resort offers year-round shredding of the gnar on whatever your choice of terrain, be it Snow, Dirt or Pavement. Anyone who has attended the past outlaw races on this hill knows just how good for a shredder’s soul this part of the world can be. There’s about 15 kilometres of road to skate on the Strathcona parkway, the lower portion of which being a 12% grade! There’s a marvellous swimming hole, and rural areas to skate close to the campsite, and a general serenity all across the landscape.
The British Columbian race circuit is generally known for its short technical and chaotic racecourses, but the Mt Washington DH is a wonderful contrast. This racecourse will see you through about 5.5 kilometres of traveling at speeds no less than 80km/h, and pushing top speeds of 110+km/h. It could be said that Mt Washington is Canada’s equivalent of Brazil’s Teutonia, of course one major difference being that us crazy Canucks will be sending down packs of six to eight riders! Have you ever performed a Quadruple draft slingshot going over 100km/hour? Now that’s speed boarding!
Being a speed oriented run with very little friction through turns, the art of drafting is an essential part of the strategic aspect of this race; the Talladega super speedway of downhill skateboarding. To make it down this racecourse, you will need a body full of carbohydrates, and legs like a rock. Patience, stability and camaraderie will be valued virtues at this race. 2008 Champ Andrew Chapman and 2009 Champ Nick Jean will be sure to attend, along with numerous western DH Skateboard heroes! The $60 entry fee will include a race shirt, Free food and drinks all day for all Pre-registered racers, and popping your 100k cherry if you haven’t already!
Whether you are a Junior, (under 16 years young) A Man, or a Woman, there will be a class to best suit your abilities, and over $1000 in prizes! We are very excited to announce that any registered rider who can surpass Mischo Erban’s official Teutonia top speed of 113kmph, will earn some big time media coverage not to mention some prime seafood and cash!
